A downloadable game for Windows

Descend. Build a way back. Survive the dark.

Deepfall is a pixel-art mining and base-building game about turning a dangerous underground expedition into a working operation. Dig your own routes, rappel into the mine, wire up machinery and build a lift that can bring both you and your ore home.

The Godot major update is now available for Windows 64-bit. This replaces the previous custom-engine release. Browser play has been retired; download and extract the Windows ZIP below.

The mine is more than a hole in the ground

  • A physical hook and rope: descend through the elevator platform, swing, detach on the ground, catch your rope again and haul yourself back up in pulls.
  • Hands-on building: excavate a shaft, drag timber and rail lines, add ladders, doors and storage, and brace nearby equipment with supports.
  • Cables that belong in the world: connect machine sockets, adjust slack, branch at clips and route power through timber wall and roof pass-throughs.
  • A working power network: use solar panels and batteries to supply machines and underground relay stops. Stored power matters when the sun goes down.
  • Lift and freight progression: extend the shaft, establish a powered deep stop, unlock cargo and send ore back to the surface.
  • Danger and atmosphere: seismic warnings build into falling debris and boulders, moving lamps, flickering lights and camera movement. Falls, water and cave creatures also make the way home matter.
  • Tools and upgrades: mine and sell ore, improve your equipment, and prepare dynamite with an aiming trajectory and adjustable throw power.

A better first expedition

The opening tutorial teaches the controls through short checklists: movement, trading, the toolbelt, the hook, mining and the first supported shaft. Animated guidance and dedicated completion sounds make progress easier to notice.

After that, the guide becomes less restrictive. Find your own ore vein, sell ore, choose an upgrade, learn power and cables, and work toward your first deep outpost. Press J to revisit guidelines and contracts. Experienced players can skip the opening tutorial when starting a new expedition.

Your first milestone: establish a powered underground outpost and complete a freight delivery. Reaching it is celebrated, but does not end the expedition. Keep exploring, building and taking contracts.

Controls worth knowing

  • A / D: move; swing while on the rope.
  • W / Space: jump. W / S: climb, reel the rope or operate the lift.
  • F: set or reattach the hook; detach while grounded. Climb to its anchor to recover it.
  • 1–0: select a toolbelt slot. Tab: inventory or close a management menu.
  • E: interact. J: guidelines and contracts. M: map. Esc: pause.
  • Hammer: B opens the build palette; V switches Build/Repair; R toggles removal. Click, hold, drag and release for horizontal or vertical lines; right-click cancels the preview.
  • Wiring: click sockets to place cable, use the wheel for slack, and right-click to stop without removing finished connections.
  • Dynamite: prepare it in inventory, click to aim, scroll to adjust power, then click again to throw. Right-click cancels.

Still a playable alpha

This is a substantial update, not a finished campaign. Content, balance and interfaces are still evolving, and bugs are possible. The first-outpost milestone is an early goal, not the final ending of the full game.

Two-player direct-IP co-op is experimental. There is no matchmaking service. Play the tutorial solo first; the host owns and saves the shared expedition. Solo is the recommended starting point for feedback.

Autosaving, save-and-exit and save-failure warnings are included. Existing Godot expeditions retain their save format, but a new expedition is recommended for the revised opening. Compatibility with saves from the old custom-engine/browser release is not guaranteed.

Tell me what happened down there

I would love to hear where you got lost, which mechanic made you want to keep playing, and what became frustrating. For bugs, please include what you were doing, what you expected and how to reproduce it. Thanks for trying Deepfall this early.
